As I posted last time. I used an air hammer and a center punch to remove the stubborn bearing races. A steel punch. While I was impressed with the ease of removing my parts, I didn’t think the whole process through. In the same quick way the air hammer knocked the hardened steel races out, it marked up the hub. Now the hubs aren’t destroyed but will take some work to fix.
I ordered a set of Swiss files and a set of rifling files from Amazon. My plan is to smooth out all the burrs and scratches. Around the outside I have a couple of scratches. Just as long as I don’t enlarge the circle it will still fit in fine. Which is why I am not using a flap wheel or other power tool. The bottom lip just has to be flat. No burrs or raised spots keeping the race from sitting flat and straight.
I will work on them tomorrow. My next post will be putting the wheels back together. New cars are boring. Go out and fix something.
