My next marathon is the Rock and Roll San Diego Marathon June 2nd. I will start specific training 16 weeks before. Which is February 11th, which is six weeks away. What am I doing now? Training to start training of course. Running three days a week cross training for two days.
I will share my specific training schedule along with my actual training when I start. My tentative first week is 17 miles total with an eight mile long run at a 12:13 pace. My goal to finish this marathon is at an 11:43 pace which will get me a five hour seven minutes finish. Slow for many but a full two hours faster than my best so far. I have a long run, tempo runs and a variety of 400-1600 meter intervals planned. With my acceptance of the treadmill weather or hour shouldn’t be a factor. The interval runs may get generalized into a “run with Mazikeen the super rowdy Cane Corso day”. The importance of the interval day is speed when tired and VO2 maximum building. Both are goals that having a strong dog set the tempo can accomplish. My two cross training days will be a mix of strength training and Tao Kwon Do drills. To aid in flexibility, general conditioning and injury prevention. Until next time, running is good new cars are still boring. Fix something old.
