Another fruitful day in the shop. My current “new” Dana 60 still has the leaf spring mounts attached, along with one shock mount. They proved to be a little tenacious. I used the Sawzall first, then tried an air-cut-off wheel. Both did marginally well. I am out of oxygen for my cutting torch, but I may get the plasma cutter out. The Spring Roll 7 is a smaller Chinese unit that I used with mixed results on thicker metal. I cut fine, but the metal refills the void after running at the top range. It may be a job for the angle grinder. I was able to remove the giant Warn winch. I removed the bumper last week. I regret to say I didn’t get any pictures of the front. I have some 3-inch channel to make a rear mount in the bed. I have bearings, seals, and all brake parts except self-adjusters. I have the backing plates off the rear to rebuild them on the bench. Installing a fuel and water pump will be on the list for Wednesday.
My mind is now turning to the bed and repairing damaged spring hangers and a hole in the frame. Until next week, new cars are boring; fix something old.
