A New Dana 60

Another setback, the hubs on the truck are unusable. My used eBay hubs are, in fact, for a Studebaker, so there are no seals that will fit my axles. Now what? Buy another 1973 Dana 60. This one is a true 3/4 ton, so it will match the front axle, but the shock and spring mounts are not the same. The old Dana is out of the truck, and my replacement Dana is being prepared. It is a rusty hulk that just about broke my arm when I moved it, which was another delay. Gear ratio is the same, general hub-to-hub width is the same. The one-ton rear suspension is an inch narrower than the single-wheel 3/4-ton version. I ordered the brake parts already. On Wednesday, I will pull the bearings, races, and seals. Inspect them and order replacements. Lessons from the shop? Inspect the parts closely, and use equipment to lift super-heavy stuff. Until next week, new cars are boring; fix something old.
