Another Good Day at The Shop 1973 Ford F250 4×4

I was able to press out all the remaining studs and drill out the locator pins. The hubs are finally ready to use. I gave them a cleaning with a degreaser and dried them in front of the shop heater. I was very happy to say the least. This had become a multiple-day job. I understand the reason behind all the in-field repairs; it was a working ranch truck. That fact, however, does not lessen the volume of work needed. This is a huge milestone so far. I am not completely finished. Next is removing the bearings, races, and seals, chasing the threads for the axle flange, then a final clean, and then painting.

The rear hubs/brake portion of the project is not yet complete, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have some more fluid changes to do the transmission, rear end, cooling system, and transfer case. I am not counting the brakes or fuel, as the entire system is being replaced. The front differential and engine are done, including my one quart overfill of the car, mercury to be exact, five quart oil pan, and the transfer case. I filled the transfer case with 90W gear oil, but it requires 50W motor oil for warmer climates and 30W for cold climates. I have 40W with 3 ounces of Prolube. My attention is also wandering to the electrical system. While I am not planning to replace the entire harness, I will repair several areas. More on that subject next time, along with a discussion about fire extinguishers. Until next time, new cars are boring; fix something old.
