I found out some new information since posting my original post. First the no money up front is real, and here is the business model. The company in my sales case SunRun, owns the panels, equipment and batteries. They always will. And more importantly they own the electricity. You can buy some from them and you get a break on your bill. Batteries are the X factor. Solar operations in California have what is called the “duck curve”. In the middle of the day people are at work electricity demand goes lower than the panels can produce. This is the sunniest part of the day. So the panel can only send it. So it gets turned off. Four o’clock boom you get home, turn on everything plug in your car and high demand. But the sun is going down. Batteries to the rescue. So basically you rent your roof and the wall in your garage for storage and a solar mill.
I also predict in ten years we are going to start having lithium, cobalt, lead acid ,and mercury issues. Disposal issues more specifically. After reading this you are smarter than the person next to you. Tell them. New cars are boring.
